Mary Gianotti
Guide
Mary grew up in Juneau, Alaska, where she found her love for snow, glaciers, and mountains (and rain) at a young age. In the summers, Mary is an instructor and guide for Alaska Mountaineering School. In the winter, Mary is an Avalanche Specialist for the Chugach Avalanche Center and a lead instructor for Alaska Avalanche School. She’s also worked for NOLS for ten years as a senior field instructor- where she’s seen mountains worldwide, including Teton Valley, North Cascades, Alaska, New Zealand, the Himalayas, and more. Mary has also helped with a Denali Search and Rescue set-up patrol. Lastly, Mary has won the American Alpine Club’s Live You Dream grant in 2018, the American Alpine Club’s Mountaineering Fellowship grant in 2019, and has a first ascent of an unnamed 9,500’ peak in the Wrangell St. Elias Mountains. She is also a founding member of Alaska Mountain Women, a female community dedicated to Alaska mountaineering. Mary has an unconditional love for snow, mountaineering, and the harsh but breathtaking landscape of Alaska, and she loves sharing that love with her clients and students.
